This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to work in the electricity supply industry (ESI) as a High Voltage (HV) Substation Project Manager or a Senior Systems Operator (ESI) or a Power Systems Technical Officer. Upon completion of this program, you will gain:

Program Overview
This qualification covers overseeing the construction of electrical substations and related projects within the ESI. It also includes managing personnel, the business aspects of projects, and giving specialist advice to deal with day-to-day issues and problems. The skills and knowledge described within the units in this qualification may require a license or permit to practice in the workplace. Additional and/or other conditions may also apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements, which must be confirmed before commencing the qualification.
Program Structure
Each qualification is made up of a series of core and elective units. The requirements for granting the qualification will be met when competency is demonstrated and achieved for:
- All the Core Units relevant to the qualification (diploma or advanced diploma), and
- A combination of available Elective Units. Elective units must add up to a weighting of 900 points (diploma) and 1340 points (advanced diploma)
- All of any prerequisite requirements

The three elective streams of each course allow students to specialize and develop careers in one of the following challenging and exciting fields:
- Electrical protection and testing – network protection systems, control systems, power communication equipment
- Electrical engineering design – overhead, underground, substations and public lighting systems
- Power system operations – LV and HV distribution systems, transmission systems, sub-transmission networks
It is possible to combine units from these three streams to develop a more general background; this will be dependent upon your own work circumstances and is determined case-by-case.

Applying for Credit
EIT can give you credit for units where you can demonstrate substantial prior experience or educational background. For more information, please see EIT's Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.
Entry Requirements
Although there are no formal entry requirements, in order to complete the on-the-job components you must be employed in the electrical supply industry. It is designed to formalize the on-the-job experience you have already gained.
Accreditation
Like all Australian vocational education training providers, EIT programs are accredited by the exacting standards of the Australian Government’s Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
Fees
You will be able to pay for your tuition fees at EIT by one of two methods:

- Per unit basis

How to Apply

Our course advisors are available to assist you with any questions you have during the application process. You will also be required to submit supporting documents to confirm your identity and that you meet our entry requirements.
Your application will then be assessed by your Learning Support Officer, which will take approximately seven working days. During this time, we will notify you if further documents are required. This may cause a delay in the process.
If you are accepted onto the program, you will receive an email providing you access to our Learning Management System, Moodle.
Time Commitment and Duration
You are expected to spend approximately 10-15 hours per week learning the program material and completing assessments. This includes attending weekly webinars that run for about 90 - 120 minutes to facilitate class discussion and allow you to ask questions. This program is run online on a part-time basis and has been designed to fit around full-time work. It will take 24 - 36 months to complete the UET50219 Diploma of ESI - Power Systems and an additional 12 months to complete UET60219 Advanced Diploma of ESI - Power Systems.

Our unique online delivery methodology makes use of live and interactive webinars, an international pool of expert lecturers, dedicated learning support officers, and state-of-the-art technologies such as remote and virtual laboratories, and simulation software. Our supportive blended learning model and small class sizes encourage you to advance your technical knowledge and remain engaged in your studies while forming global networks and balancing life and work commitments.
Student Support
We provide you with support and encouragement from staff for the duration of your studies. You will have a dedicated Learning Support Officer, plus support from academic staff when you need it.
Our class sizes are small to allow you to build rapport with lecturers and fellow students. This will enable you to ask questions and seek clarity when needed.
We understand that personal circumstances can change while you are undertaking your studies. If, at any point, you feel that you are struggling with the pace of the program or finding a particular module challenging, you can contact your designated Learning Support Officer. They will be able to either provide you with extra material, assignment extensions or put you in touch with the relevant lecturer for assistance.

Appeals and Grievances
Any student has a right to appeal a decision of the Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) or any member of the institute’s staff. EIT has a comprehensive Policy on Appeals and Grievances to assist students.
Hardware and Software Requirements
To access our remote laboratories, you will need:
- Operating system: Windows 7 or higher (Windows 10 recommended); or macOS 10.12 or higher (recommended)
- Storage: A minimum of 4GB memory (RAM), and a minimum of 20GB of spare disk space is recommended
- Processor: 1.5Ghz or higher, 2 cores or higher
- An 11” Monitor with at least 1024x768 screen resolution
- Internet access with at least 5Mbps download and upload speeds
- A valid personal email address
- Speakers and microphone/headset (can be built-in)
- A webcam that can recognize your face for invigilated (online) exams
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar software
- An up-to-date web browser
Note: An Android or iOS tablet can be used to join webinars, but a computer is preferable for some simulation software and for remote laboratory access.
The program software packages and setup details will be provided to students on the start date of the program. The software is included in your tuition fee.
Academic Resources
We pride ourselves on providing you with quality learning resources. All teaching materials are delivered via our learning management system, Moodle, including webinar slides, and a comprehensive reading list. We also provide access to an extensive online library and subscribe to a wide range of engineering-focused library collections, including over 160 technical engineering manuals developed and published by our sister company IDC Technologies.
Online library
Our eLibrary is hosted on our learning management system and provides free access to a vast array of resources to support your study. You will receive free online access to IDC Technologies’ technical engineering manuals, as well as the international libraries we subscribe to, namely Elsevier Knovel and the IEEE STEM 45+ collection. Collectively, these libraries contain hundreds of thousands of resources, including textbooks, journals, articles, conference papers, and other learning resources such as equations and unit converters.
A note regarding recognition of this course in the Australian education system: This is a nationally accredited qualification, and EIT is approved by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to deliver it in all Australian states.
